Highbury Vaults
Website (if available)
www.britishpubguide.comDescription
Open 12pm to 12am Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 11pm Sunday, this quiet traditional pub prides itself on the quality of its snacks, choosing not to operate a huge 'pub' menu, but rather a menu consisting of delicious home cooked smaller meals like Cornish pasties or salads. With no music and a huge beer garden, socialising is also a key feature. A pint will cost £2.65 and spirits £2.10, they also serve a range of real ales, all costing £2.15.
Sitting on the peak of St Michael’s Hill, Highbury Vaults is far from the centre of the action. It is, however, perfectly positioned as a watering hole for anyone attempting to conquer the mighty mount. A popular haunt for both students and locals, the Vaults offers a friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced ales. In the main bar, low level lighting and a choice of cosy nooks and crannies give a feeling of intimacy. The enclosed beer garden at the back of the pub serves as an overspill seating area in the winter, when outdoor heating is provided, but becomes premium drinking space during the summer. Highbury Vaults is a great local if you happen to live in the area and even worth the trek if you’re in search of an alternative place to relax, but be aware that it can fill up during in the evenings. If you arrive long after working hours on a Friday, you may find yourself short of a seat.
