Frenchay Campus Chair

Dominic Mottram

Dominic Mottram

Personal Statement

Hi I’m Dom! I’m a 3rd year Geography & Transport student with a passion for change. I have lived all over Europe, speak three languages, and have experienced many different cultures. I want to bring a more international mindset to UWE and to help students from around the world whilst they’re living and working at Frenchay. I am an avid athlete and ardent hockey player, playing both for the uni and Bristol-UWE; but when I’m not on the pitch, you can find me on Park Street or in Red Bar with mates, beer and nachos!

Having been on a placement it has helped me put my views across to get the right outcome. This coupled with participating in the Model United Nations in The Hague makes me an excellent persuasive speaker. So if you vote for me, these will be YOUR views for Frenchay and the right outcome FOR (words cut exceeded limit)

Manifesto

Frenchay campus is changing beyond recognition. But is change right? Is change wrong? Is change too fast? Is change too slow? Is change overdue? If you want change, then it’s up to YOU!

There are over 2,000 living on Frenchay night and day, over 8,000 study here. That’s over 10,000 students who call this campus ‘home’. Over 10,000 people with a voice. So don’t sit there and be scared; let your opinion be shared!

I shall build upon, and further improve the campus by….

….listening to your views: if you want something done; tell me about it;

…talking to those at the top: over 10,000 people can’t be wrong;

…lobbying for positive change;

…getting something done with ICT. Campus-wide wifi is a must.

The time for change is now at Frenchay; YOU are the future of this campus. With your opinions now, YOU will shape the future of UWE students at Frenchay for the next half-century. I will make your voice heard. Your voice for the future of UWE!

Bullet Points
  • Listening to you and making sure your voice is heard by those in charge!
  • Improving Student Union facilities
  • Lobbying for campus-wide wifi!
  • Increasing the number and quality of sports facilities for students!
  • Making Frenchay for everyone; from Bristol to Brisbane via Bangkok!

Glenside Campus Chair

Chris Langley

Chris Langley

Personal Statement

HELLO, my name is Chris Langley and I’m a second year nursing student studying on Glenside, as well as studying on the campus I work as a barman at the Glenside SU, its through this I became a Glenside angel helping to run and organise events for the last two freshers intakes. On top of studying working and angeling I enjoy kayaking a sport iv taken up recently by joining UWE canoe. Through this club I have had the opportunity to travel around the UK learning to kayak and play canoe polo, a sport I hope to represent UWE in at the varsity.

I consider myself an active member of the student body and wish to continue and develop this by becoming your campus chair on Glenside representing you and your views to the bigger student body that is uwesu.

Manifesto

If elected as your Glenside campus chair primarily id be your voice representing you to the bigger student body of uwesu, ensuring your voice is heard and your issues addressed, secondly with a new decade would see a shake up of fresher’s building on the success of previous events and the introduction of new and exciting ones.

Working closely with the other executives from out neighbouring campuses I’d work to promote intercampus events ensuring Glenside hosted as many as possible, as well as promoting intercampus relationships id work to encourage the ENT’s committee to bring more of their events to Glenside student union.

Being a health care student myself I’m aware of the constraints our courses put on our private lives and with this is mind I would ensure that Glenside student union is ran in a way that best facilitaites these constraints, thus promoting a better uwesu Glenside experience for its students and making the campus a place to be.

Regards Chris Langley

Bullet Points
  • Ensure the voice of Glenside students are heard by uwesu
  • Promote intercampus relationships
  • Create a social calendar health care student friendly
  • Harness the power of the Student union to support worthy student projects
  • Revamp fresher’s events

St Matts Campus Chair

India Kirkpatrick & Paddy Besiris

India Kirkpatrick & Paddy Besiris

Personal Statement

Hi, we’re Paddy and India, St Matt’s SU Bar staff members in our second year at UWE! I’m sure you’ll have seen us around- Paddy’s the one who you’ll find on the floor at DTBD- (studying Politics), and India’s the one who writes your name in toast on your breakfast from St Matt’s Bar- (studying History)! We’ve been very close friends since freshers 2008, and work extremely well as a team- what one of us lacks in character, the other makes up for. St Matt’s SU Bar is like our second-home, you’ll always see us in there at events or just chilling out between lectures. We’re very passionate about our campus, and want to ensure that new and current students enjoy the same fantastic experience that we are having!

Manifesto

As Campus Chair, we will strive to make the student experience the best possible, not only for returning students but also the new freshers. We all know how hard it is to adjust in a new environment when you first leave home, so it is our aim to make the transition for new students as pain-free as possible! We are dedicated to listening to the views of every student, whether a small suggestion for the SU bar or an idea for an event they wish to put on. We will make sure that we are ever-present around campus and will have a set office hour and email address so that students can always contact us. In our opinion, an information point in the SU bar would be a great addition to ensure that students have a reference point for contacts such as the local doctor and dental surgeries, sexual health clinics, job vacancies around the area and other helpful information. The move to Frenchay next year is inevitable, but we can promise to ensure that the facilities are of a good standard to accommodate the students moving from St Matthias campus and to pass on any information that we hear from our liaisons with the executive team. University is one of the most important times of your life. Obviously we are all here to learn but the student experience is much more than that. We will take it upon ourselves to make yours the best it can be!

Bullet Points
  • Put on at least 2 large student social events per month
  • Increase communication with students + constantly liaise with the executive team about the move to (words cut exceeded limit)
  • Dedicate ourselves to students’ needs, including having an office hour once a week
  • Publicise local information and helpful contacts in the SU
  • Strive to maintain the friendly and neighbourly atmosphere already present on St Matt’s!

Bower Ashton Campus Chair

Karli Baker

Karli Baker

Personal Statement

At the moment I am a rep on at least 4 different rep councils. To manage this and my studies requires good time management and organisational skills. I left home in Australia and came to the UK to be a live in Nanny. This taught me responsibility for others as well as myself.

When not doing University work I like to do anything creative including knitting, painting and scrap booking. I also enjoy Reading; I try and read the paper every day as well as always having at least two books on the go at any one time. As I travelled a lot growing up I always like to keep up to date with what is happening in the news both worldwide and local. I am a friendly and caring person who wants everyone to be happy.

Manifesto

As Bower Ashton is one of the smaller campuses I want to make sure we are not forgotten and that the students at this campus have the best experiences they can.

Events wise, I want to make sure that student events that happen at Frenchay also happen on Bower so that students can get involved more with the University as well as interacting more with other campuses. The developments of Bower Ashton itself are very important to me and I want to make sure that what the students want is heard.

Transport is a subject that students always have a voice about so I want to try and make sure that Bower has sufficient transport, from Ulink to cycling. People always have things that they want improving on Bower and I want to try and get these problems either fixed or improved. Some of the priorities would be allocation of facilities and budget, safety at Bower, the relationship between Bower and other campuses, transport and student participation.

Most of all, I want to make sure that the voice of Bower is heard within the University and that students have a wonderful experience at UWE. Students chose UWE for a reason and I want to make sure they get out of Bower what they expected so that future students can have the best experience possible at Bower Ashton.

Bullet Points
  • Make sure that the wider University hears the voice of Bower Ashton Students.
  • Make sure that Bower Ashton doesn’t loose out on enjoying all events the University offers.
  • Improve transport and safety for Bower Ashton.
  • Make sure all courses have the correct facilities they need.
  • Make sure that Bower Ashton students have the experience they expected.
