Personal Statement

Hi everyone.

I’m Sam Jones and I’m running for src vice-president. I am interested in politics, the environment, hard work and having fun. I enjoy clubbing, live music and reading. I love my course, and I love UWE. This year I’m campus chair for St.Matts and have been very busy working with the union so I know what needs to be done and what your issues are.

I feel I can really make a difference to student experience, I’m hardworking and dedicated. I like to GET THINGS DONE, not beat around the bush and procrastinate.

Manifesto

I’m Sam Jones & I would really like YOU to vote for me. If elected these are some of the many areas I will be dedicating my time to

Representation: I will ensure that your representatives are there when you need them doing what you need them to do. I will campaign for greater student involvement in having a say in how your courses are run. I will also make sure information is passed on from your elected officers to you. I will be accountable.

Communication: I will lobby the university to make staff communicate more effectively with students in areas such as blackboard and assessment feedback (how often have you received just two lines and a mark, and remain unsure as to how you could have improved).

Campuses: I want all the campuses to feel integrated with the student union. I want to see more union activity on all campuses with regular visits from officers and effective communication between sites.

Transport: We’ve moved on a lot from last year but we still need better bus timetabling, better trained drivers and some serious work on car park 20 so you can actually get to uni: drainage, lined spaces and smoothing out! I WILL get this done!

Environmental issues: I want us to work towards a sustainable future, and for U.W.E. to lead the environmental movement, not lag behind. I will lobby the university to use green electricity, supply better recycling facilities and to make the buildings more energy efficient.

Bullet Points

  • Representation. Make it effective, accountable and there when you need it
  • Communication. Improve information flow between the University and Students, especially Blackboard and Assessment Feedback
  • Campuses. Strong campuses and strong links between them
  • Transport. More and better buses and parking. Strive for improvements all the time
  • The environment. UWE at the green leading-edge, not on the fence.

Personal Statement

Hi, I ’m Sanjay, a final year student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences. I work in Escape Bar and as a UWESU photographer.

I am highly passionate about how UWESU works and how the student experience can be enhanced and improved and how UWESU can be more engaging with YOU, the student, on many fronts.

I am a very confident, passionate person. I am a great team worker and I’m willing to represent UWE students and make a difference. I will give this year my all.

I am an easy going person, approachable to talk to and willing to listen to everyone’s views.

Manifesto

If I am elected, one of my key aims is to help students get the most from their degree. By lobbying to allow students’ a better feedback to their marked exam papers. Seminar classes are far too big thus less student-to-lecturer interaction, which is key to everyone’s learning.

Timetabling is a huge issue every year, and one which really affects a wide spectrum of students and its unacceptable that students don’t get their timetable before lectures begin. I will ensure this does not happen next year.

Transport is another key issue as we all have to get into university, I will fight to improve Ulink so they actually turn up on time; I want to see the introduction of the single student ticket; campaign for new routes so that it actually works for students. I will also lobby to First Bus to introduce cheaper bus tickets for students. Facilities on campus for cyclists need to improve to make cycling more attractive.

I will campaign so more innovative solutions are used to make UWE greener, such as asking lecturers to provide students with material that does not involve printing off reams of paper and ensuring all printers are double sided. Turn down the heating and reduce the carbon footprint.

Accommodation is a huge factor in a student’s life we want the university and UNITE to provide excellent accommodation, yet at a price which is fair and student friendly, and ones which offer real benefit to the students.

Thank you (words cut, exceeded word limit)

Bullet Points

  • Sustainable Transport – Improved Ulink service, better First Bus service, later running busses.
  • Improving your education – Lobby UWE to implement UWESU timetable report. Better exam and coursework feedback.
  • Greener UWE – Reducing waste, Re-using and Re-Cycling at UWE
  • Student Car Park/Cycling – Improve the state of Car Park 20, its dangerous. And improve (words cut exceeded word limit)
  • GDP – Making GDP work for students, so it delivers its promises.

Personal Statement

I’ve been a student representative for the past 3 years which has taught me a lot about the hard work that goes into running this university. I’m also a student ambassador, which involves talking to potential students and freshers about how great UWE is . . . but I know it can be better! Through these roles I’ve learned a lot about what students want and how to get it.

I’m friendly, hard working and honest. I love a challenge and I promise to strive to make this university the best it can be!

So don’t forget, Vote Katy!

Manifesto

So why should you vote for me?

My time at UWE has taught me how to get the right people listening to what we have to say; I will ensure the student voice is heard loud and clear! The people in charge want to listen; you need to ensure the right person is speaking for you. This is your university and I want to fight for you and help represent the views of ALL students, international, part time, post graduates, everyone.

UWE has the potential to be so much better than it is, if attention is paid in the right areas. Car parking needs some serious TLC, the Ulink still needs improving and more action needs to be taken to get an affordable, reliable service from First Bus. Then there are the continuing problems with timetabling, deadlines and the general standard of learning across all faculties and campuses. Our multi-campus status should be more valued and all sites need to be treated equally as part of the UWE community.

More work needs to be done with students to communicate all the channels open to you. For example resources like the student reps that are not utilised nearly enough! You need to know who they are and how to reach them so they can try to sort out any issues you may have.

I’m really committed to this role and all the responsibilities that go with it. Let’s improve your student experience and make this university great!

Vote Katy!

Bullet Points

  • Improving communications between the university and its students, we’re people not numbers! Treat us right!
  • Sorting out the car parks and making them safer and more secure
  • Maintaining and improving all transport for students
  • Making sure timetabling works for you
  • Making the student experience at UWE the best it can be

Personal Statement

Hey guys I’m a postgrad student, and this is my 4th year at UWE so I’ve been through the whole system, from enrollement (twice!), exams, assignments and graduation. In that time I’ve been a student rep for 3 years, have been elected to SRC for the last two and this year was elected to Academic Board, the highest decision making council in the University. Being involved in the Union for this long has highlighted to me the issues that affect all of us as students, right across UWE, and an insight of how we can help improve these problems.

Manifesto

I’m running for SRC-Vice President because I believe that the student voice needs to be heard at the highest level throughout the University, because if there were no students, there would be no University! I’m committed and hard-working and I will make sure that I am there to represent the student body.

We need to make the Students Union more accessible to all students to improve the level of representatation across the board. This means getting more students on more councils to improve communication. I believe the Union should come to us- not the other way around!

I want to bring academic issues to the front and centre. I find it hard to understand that I have never seen one of my exam scripts in my time at UWE yet other faculties allow their students full access. We need timetables before teaching commences that don’t mysteriously change at week 17 and are easily understood.

Transport continues to let students down. The ULink is meant to be our service and we need to fight for buses that get us to University on time!

All of us know the troubles that affect UWE, problems with transport, timetabling, assessment feedback, communication between different faculties (or lack of!) and provisions for campuses. I’m not promising a “quick fix” to these issues because there isn’t one. But no matter how difficult the problem, I will work to resolve it, that is why you should vote Gail, because I’m the girl who will get stuff done.

Bullet Points

  • Work hard to resolve all issues affecting students
  • Get more students on more councils to further communication between the university and students
  • Ensure timetables are available earlier, are easily understood and stay the same
  • Continue to improve the ULink service- get the timetable you want
  • Improve provisions for all campuses- from car parking to new computers
