SU Democracy

Every year UWESU gives students the chance to elect who they want to see run the Union.

There are four main positions up for grabs; Student Representative President, Student Representative Vice President, Sports President and Activities President. Each of these positions are paid and can be undertaken on a full time or part time basis. There are also elections held for other positions within the Union such as the Chairpersons of the Faculty Student Councils, members from Faculty Student Council who will serve on the Student Representative Council and members who will serve on the Ethics & Quality Committee.

The Presidents, as well as overseeing the day-to-day running of the Union, are also responsible for representing your views to the University and ensuring that University and Union policies and procedures work effectively and allow you to have your say. They also raise student issues at all levels of the University's decision-making process and look for resolutions to the problems that students face. There are many opportunities for you to get involved and influence the direction of your Union. You could even stand for election yourself and become a president!

The fun and frolics of elections takes place in March when you will have the joy of seeing hundreds of campaign posters plastered to every pin board, bus stop and window! You will also probably be coerced to vote by candidates with lollies and other freebies.

Elections 2008
