Personal Statement

As President of the Live Music Society for the past year, I’ve had an incredible head start in the world of event organization and promotions, both within and outside the university.

I study English whilst engaging in conventional and extreme sports, as well as martial arts. I’ve achieved many qualifications in practical fields by being determined, personable and well presented in my literature and in person.

My passion for success is driven by my desire to compete with myself, and to help others. Through my experiences, I’ve gained an unprecedented amount of organisational and communicative skills. I enjoy sharing experiences, encouraging participation and setting examples.

I work well individually and as part of a team in both contributory and leadership roles, carrying out any tasks to the best of my ability. The Students Union is an important part of your UWE experience;

I will ensure it benefits us!

Manifesto

Vote Ashley Cook #1 for Activities President!

As an experienced and well travelled person, I have learned what it takes to succeed. Students at UWE have already experienced a portion of what I can do as part of a team with the Live Music Society. The SU is a multi-million pound organisation that everyone at UWE should benefit from, especially as it’s OURS.

The key to my success is communication. I want to hear what you have to say, no matter what position you are in. I will listen, and take action. Regardless of the distance between our campuses, there is no reason that any group should feel excluded. Communication across all campuses will be improved, leading to a greater Union between all the Students.

Events are a major issue within our SU. Events bring people together, and encourage enjoyment. I recognise that the SU needs a more diverse range of entertainment to engage with all students. This is one of my priorities: listening to your voice; taking on your requests.

Being a part of a society is a fantastic way to improve our social networks and help maintain our well-being mentally, and physically. Societies also form a large part of the Union's Raise And Give (RAG) charity. Participation in this way not only benefits the community, it looks good for potential employers when you graduate. I intend to increase coverage and membership of all societies, and ensure when new societies are born they are provided with the right training.

Bullet Points
  • Improve current societies and encourage new ones, giving them both equal support throughout the year.
  • Ensure students have a range of accessible entertainments at events to cater for wider tastes.
  • Improve communication across campuses, amongst societies and their members, across the SU in general.
  • Improve the awareness of RAG (The SU’s charity fundraiser) & campaigns within the SU.
  • Increase and improve the efficiency of the SU’s funding and budget allocations.

Personal Statement

I’m Louise, and I want to be your next Activities President. Why? Because I love UWE, and I want you to feel as equally passionate about it too .

I’ve gained so much from getting involved with the Student Union through numerous ways, and now I want to pass it on to you. I want to bring a little bit of colour and life to your Student Union, through my commitment, dedication and passion.

I have a strong can-do attitude, which is essential to get things going in such a large and growing establishment. I want to bring about change, and make things happen.

Vote LOUISE: Let’s add a bit of COLOUR to your ACTIVITIES

Manifesto

I think UWE is such a vibrant place to study, but being in University is not just about getting a good degree. I want to encourage a greater student involvement, and awareness of what UWESU has to offer: I want a louder, bigger, and bolder student voice. I want to represent YOU the students, as UWE would be nowhere without you.

I promise to work hard to raise the profile of the Activities Centre ... It’s a truly enriching experience to fully get involved: from running a society, volunteering, or writing an article for the Western Eye. All through which you gain skills that your degree may not provide you with, yet future employers thirst for. I want to bring all these opportunities to your doorstep.

I believe that the Western Eye (Student Paper) is so important, and has provided many students with a huge pedestal to get them places, yet the recent funding cuts are a huge detriment to the rising talent that the Western Eye has flourished. I want to provide greater support and recognition for students’ positive contribution to UWE.

I want to promote more diverse events targeting towards post graduates, mature, part time, and international students, who have often been left on the side lines.

I want to bring the students back to the heart of the University.

Vote LOUISE for ACTIVITIES PRESIDENT

Bullet Points
  • Raise the profile of UWESU, encouraging greater involvement with volunteering, student media, and societies.
  • Provide a platform onto which students can get more involved with UWESU
  • Ensure that the Western Eye is given the support and recognition it deserves
  • Make the Student Union more accessible to Post Graduate, Part Time, and International Students
  • Organise more diverse campus events showcasing your talents at center stage

Personal Statement

Hello there.

My Name is Terry Atkinson. I arrived at UWE in 2006 and within two hours I had a job at our Student Union.

Why? You may ask.

Because I had heard from all my friends who had been to University that your Student Union is the place to be.

I live for the Student Union, be it as DJ Terry Tibbs on a Monday night, or be it cooking specials at the ST Matt’s SU on a Thursday.

Four years of Student Union service has given me an insight into where it works and where it doesn’t above other candidates.

I spent 6 years working in various management roles before I arrived at UWE,

I wont bore you with what they are, but the most important things needed at our SU are,

A smile

A sense of Humour

And sheer Dedication

We can make change happen.

VOTE TERRY-AKKIE.

Manifesto

Aims and Intentions,

I WILL introduce a discount scheme for anyone who is part of ANY club/sport society.

This small change will not only encourage new membership, but help the moral of ALL societies in UWESU.

We all know money is a problem in this day and age.

Rewarding loyalty amongst clubs and societies with this scheme will bring in more members, which means bigger budget, which means more spent in the SU, which means more money for events. SIMPLES!!

Events have increased this year. However I have heard from YOU,

The members of OUR SU, that they are still too expensive. You are right, unless it’s a big name act, why should you have to pay a ridiculous amount to get into YOUR own SU.

When the SU space is not in use, I fully endorse and encourage students using it for rehearsal space, or even an alternative for the Library, somewhere less formal to study!

RAG has been horribly ignored and un-supported this year. The RAG committee have fought long and hard for support which was lacking.

I WILL support the RAG society fully, and encourage RAG events as often as possible.

Communication, how often have you heard of an event in YOUR SU, AFTER it has actually happened? POSTERS, ADVERTISMENT, SUPPORT, POSITIVITY.

I WILL SUPPORT AND ENABLE ANY member of the SU to put on an event. It’s YOUR SU, live the dream.

HELP ME MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN

VOTE TERRY-AKKIE

Bullet Points
  • Discount scheme for ALL members of Club/Sport Societies at OUR SU Bars and for (words cut exceeded limit)
  • Increase FREE events across ALL Campuses
  • Encourage and support ANY student who wishes to stage an event in OUR SU
  • RAG RAG RAG RAG it WILL be BIGGER and more Prominent
  • COMMUNICATION, POSTERS, ADVERTISMENT, POSITIVITY on ALL Campuses.

No Suitable Candidate

No Suitable Candidate is option if you think none of the other candidates are capable of doing a good job. If NSC wins the election, nominations will re-open, and other people will have the opportunity to put themselves forward for the post.
