The Sports Council

14. The Sports Council

There shall be a Sports Council the membership and functions of which shall be as follows:

14.1 Membership

The members who shall be entitled to vote at meetings shall be:

 

  • The Chairperson of the Sports Council

 

  • One representative of each affiliated sports club

 

14.2 Functions

 

  • To serve as the mechanism through which the views of the student members of sports clubs are actively canvassed and identified;

 

  • To consider matters relating to and impacting on the recreational and sporting experience of students of the University;

 

  • To promote and facilitate the development and provision of sport and recreation at the University;

 

  • To serve as the mechanism through which the views of the members of sports clubs are effectively communicated to the Directorate of the University and through the decision making processes of the University;

 

  • To consider applications from students wishing to establish a sports club for affiliation to the Sports Council;

 

  • To plan, allocate and control the budget of the Sports Council in compliance with Law 8 and Law 9;

 

  • To establish such sub-committees as it deems appropriate and to establish procedures for the operation of those sub-committees;

 

 

  • To elect from its members a deputy to the chairperson

 

 

14.3 Quorum

A quorum of 50%+1 of members shall be attained before any business may be transacted
