UWESU Sports Fun Day

Fencing

On Thursday 28th February, volunteers from SU sports clubs helped run a Sports Fun Day, organised by CVP and the students’ union.

Volunteers from SU sports clubs helped run a Sports Fun Day for a group of year 6 children from a local school. Members from Women’s Basketball, Netball, Fencing and Kickboxing coordinated activities to get all the children involved and energetic.

The day consisted of an enthusiastic group warm-up, led by the basketball girls, followed by three smaller groups rotating between sessions of basketball, fencing and netball. The morning’s activities ended with a dynamic kickboxing session to warm-down the kids and round-off what was a much enjoyed day.

During interviews with the teachers, they commented on the impressive turn out of student volunteers who were willing and happy to give up their time to teach the sports that they love so much to others. One teacher remarked, “This is fantastic, even the usually not-so-well-behaved pupils are getting involved and loving it!”

Having the children work in groups with different individuals was a success. When asked, “Do you think you will play any of these sports again?” all the children responded with cheers and nods of agreement. They all had a great time and said they’d learnt a lot through experiencing sports that they had not done before.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this a brilliant day, we look forward to the next event with anticipation!
