Description

By joining UWE gliding you can experience the thrill of gliding, at what is likely to be the most affordable price you will see in your lifetime. For just £15 membership per year, and £6 per launch, you will be saving over £100 on normal gliding prices.

The price includes free instruction from a qualified gliding instructor, giving you the opportunity to reach the level of solo pilot. This will eventually result in the opportunity to go on cross country flights, over typical distances of around 300 - 500 km. Gliding is a truly exhilarating sport!

Where they train/meet

We run trips to the airfield every weekend (weather permitting) Transport from Bristol to the airfield will be arranged when you let us know you can make it. We will be organising a progression week during the Easter and summer holidays.

Our socials take place every Wednesday at Vodka Revolutions, then moving on to join the Sports and Societies night at the Walkabout (and beyond). Just Google 'Vodka Revolutions Bristol' for directions.

The club has a brand new committee and there is potential to compete at the Inter-University Competitions, make trips to other airfields throughout the year and opportunities to join overseas trips to experience gliding in other countries.

We also arrange an aerobatics day, where members can experience aerobatic flight, which can involve high speeds, loops and flying upside-down.

UWEGC operates from Cotswold Gliding Club (www.cotswoldgliding.co.uk/index.htm) at Aston Down airfield near Stroud, about a 50 minute drive North West of Bristol. (www.cotswoldgliding.co.uk - check out the webcams!) The Cotswold Gliding Club is one of the UK’s Premier Gliding Clubs, and membership of UWEGC gives you access to all of their facilities, including their new training fleet of PW-6U and DG 500 2 seat trainers.

Members need no prior experience as we will take you right from being an ab-inito, to solo pilot and beyond. All equipment and instruction will be provided. Join us!

INDUCTION WEEKEND:
Its important for you all to recieve an introductory briefing about the club and its operating practices. To that end, the weekend on the 1st/2nd November needs your attendence. Let us know you can make it through the events list on your right. You must have paid and popped up to the SU to get your Green NUS Card stamped, for insurance purposes. If your card isn't sorted, we can't let you on the bus! Enough said...

FYO: Anyone can become a member of the UWE Gliding Club, whether they go to this university or not. Members are put into 3 sections:

Full members - Current UWE Students who pay £15
Affiliate Members - Students of other institutions, who also pay £15
Associate Members - Ex UWE students pay £22.50, anyone else pays £45.

If you have a partner who would like to join us on the weekends, or if you are not a current UWE Student and would like to join, please register at www.uwesu.org and click on register, or pay by cash to any Student Union office at any UWE Campus. Let us know if you have any queries.
