Support & Advice
PAIRS is a society for all students interested in domestic and international politics.
The society aims to create a lively environment to discuss current issues and topics and to provide networking opportunities to our members. It is also a great meeting point for students of Politics & International Relations from all levels to get peer support.
While the society makes the learning of Politics & IR more engaging, it is by no means only for the students of these subjects. We encourage all students interested in current affairs to join. All that is required is the interest for the subject. In addition we also co-operate with other political societies at UWE and organize official debates with them twice a term. UWE Question Times held this academic year were highly successful!
Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are an official part of PAIRS activities. We attempt to participate in at least one MUN annually together, plus inform our members about up-coming MUNs around the world. The first UWE MUN Conference was organized in October 2012 and continued to be even bigger and better in 2013. PAIRS will be hosting a third UWEMUN this October so keep your eyes open!
The most common activities are the regular socials and debates, that take turn each week. Our socials last term included traditional pub evenings, bowling, Bristol Festival of Ideas talks and a joint social with the Politics Society of University of Bristol. We also attempt to look out for interesting talks locally, nationally and within the university.
PAIRS was honoured with the award for the Best Academic Society of the Year 2014 and our trip to Brussels together with UWE Law Society was the Trip of the Year. This was third year in a row that PAIRS was awarded, previous awards have included Society of the Year 2013 and Most Improved Society 2012. Do come along to our events to be part of an active friendly bunch of future diplomats!
