JobShop - connecting students with employers - www.uwesu.org/jobshop

What's the Jobshop all about?

Information about the Jobshop.

The students' union jobshop was set up in September 1998 in response to further grant cuts, the introduction of fees and the consequent increase in student hardship. It is one of a growing number of Student Employment Services at institutions around the country which aim to assist students in finding suitable part-time and vacation employment.

Jobshop offers employers: both local and national, direct contact with the 24000+ students studying at UWE. UWE students actively looking for work register with Jobshop and then receive a weekly personal e-mail with details of all the jobs available. The weekly e-mail currently goes to 9500 registered students. Jobshop can therefore offer employers fast access to well-educated, eager and adaptable staff.

Many of the students registered with Jobshop are not only looking for a source of income, but an opportunity to develop transferable skills and business acumen to assist their career development. You can benefit from this flexible and eager workforce and at the same time help them to gain invaluable experience.

Managed by a student employment professional, Jobshop is able to provide more than simply advertising and can tailor the service depending on your requirements. If positions may be of interest to students of specific disciplines, advertising can be targeted at particular faculties within the university, for example, I.T., nursing, engineering, to name a few.

Vacancies can be:

  • advertised on Jobshop noticeboards at all 4 of the Bristol UWE campuses
  • included in a weekly e-mail bulletin sent to all registered students
  • posted on Jobshop vacancy web page
  • There are also opportunities for employers to advertise in Student Union publications, or to come on campus to hold recruitment stalls, interviews or information sessions.
  • Further information about all our services are available on request from Jobshop.
