Student Loans - Fraudulent Emails
Fraudulent Emails in Circulation - The Student Loans Company has become aware of an attempt to access customers' personal details via a fraudulent website using the "studentfinancedirect" name.
People are receiving e-mails requesting their personal details, in which a replica of a "studentfinancedirect" page instructs them to enter information. The student email addresses that have been used, ends "....ac.uk".
The advise is that all students should not, under any circumstances, respond to any e-mail asking them to confirm their personal student loan details.
Students should also be aware that we would never, under any circumstances, contact them by e-mail to request such information. If students have inadvertently responded to such email requests, they should contact the usual SLC customer help line for guidance.
We are currently engaged in a major exercise to investigate fully what has taken place online and to tighten up the existing security. Having checked all recent alterations to customers' bank details, we are now satisfied that, thus far, no-one has been affected by this scam.
Based on investigations to date, it seems unlikely that any further action is required. However, if additional information emerges, it will be displayed on the HEI website: www.heinfo.slc.co.uk
.
Please be assured that the SLC are continuing to monitor the situation on a daily basis.
