Be aware - Scam Information
Information regarding a scam which UWESU has recently been made aware of.
At approximately 3pm on Tuesday 18th December 2007 a Student was walking along Whiteladies Road in the direction of Durdham Downs. As he was walking past the Petrol Station near Oakfield Road, Clifton he became aware of a white Transit type Van which was stationary. The passenger in this van engaged the Student in conversation and offered him a pair of MATRIX speakers, said to be valued at £4,000, at a knockdown price of £350. Needless to say that they are of course worth less than £100. It should be emphasised that these people have a very slick operation running and will offer to deliver the speakers or take people to a cashpoint machine to get the money. This is part of a worldwide scam and to illustrate the point further information can be found on the website listed below. <http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Matrix-Mx-1200-worldwide-scam-BEWARE_W0QQugidZ10000000005318417 >
The story that was used in this particular case was that the company had received a shipment of these speakers by accident and they have to dispose of them, hence the knockdown price. The persons involved in this scam are described as follows 1. White male, short grey hair, 30's, wearing a dark blue shirt with the word MATRIX thereon. He spoke with what was believed to be a mild Bristol accent. He was the driver of the vehicle. 2. White male, 30's, 5'10" tall, wearing a dark blue shirt with the word MATRIX thereon and a dark coloured baseball cap. He is believed to have spoken with an Australian accent. These 2 males even went to the Student's accommodation in order to complete the deal but were then shown the article as shown on the website featured above. They even attempted to bluff their way out of this but to no avail and left. Therefore this message is sent to alert people to this scam and it would be helpful if this could be disseminated to as many people as possible.
