Screentest 2007 Invites Submissions

Are you a student filmmaker? Would you like the chance for your work to be shown in the leading national showcase of student films?

Screentest 2007 offers not only the chance to compete for the most prestigious national student filmmaking awards, but also the opportunity to mingle with, and learn from, leading industry figures. Last year's festival was opened by BAFTA Chairman Duncan Kenworthy; masterclasses over the weekend were given by Ken Loach (Palme D'O winner 2006), Peter Owens (leading wig maker and character designer responsible for creating the likes of Lord Of The Rings.), and Elliot Grove (Director of the Raindance Film Festival).

Screentest 2007 takes place from the 2nd - 4th March. It is, as ever, hosted by the University of Bristol Filmmaking Society ( UBFS), with the support of the University of Bristol Union ( UBU). This year, the festival has been officially endorsed by the NUS.

Screentest 2007 offers an unparalleled platform for meeting like-minded people and is also one of the best ways of getting your films seen by peers and professionals alike. SUBtv is launching a dedicated Screentest Channel on 25th November 2006. This means that studetns around the country will be able to watch a selection of the best student-films in the comfort of their student union bar. Simply ask the bar-staff to switch to the Screentest Channel! Films will be updated twice termly. The initial selection will include a number of last year's winning entries.

We Warmly invite delegates to attend the festival on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of March 007. Tickets will be available online at www.screentestfest.co.uk from the beginning of December. Delegate Tickets cost £10; they allow full access to all areas of the festival: screenings; lectures; delegate parties; the Awards Show; and the first ever Screentest Beer and Film Festival. Accommodation for the weekend costs an additional £8. Delegates will stay with hosting Bristol students.

SPECIAL OFFER: Accommodation and delegate tickets will be offered half-price to anyone who submits a film before the 1st January 2007.

To submit a film, visit www.screentestfest.co.uk and complete the online entry form. The deadline for submissions is January 31st 2007, although earlier submissions are strongly recommended.

The award categories are: Best Script; Technical Achievement Award; Best Action/Horror; Best Drama; Best Comedy; Best Documentary; Best Animation; Best Music Video; and Best Campaign Film. These awards are judged by a panel of studetn filmmakers from around the country. There is also a Grand Jury Award, which is judged by a panel of industry professionals and academics.

Best Campaign Film is a new category for this year's festival. Any genre of film is eligible (documentary, comedy, drama, etc.), as long as it addresses and draws attention to a topical issue. The film can tackle local, national or international problems, provided that a specific stance is adopted and a solution is suggested.

Also new is the Best Music Video category. If you need help in finding a band that wants a video made, please contact us through the website.

For further information on submissions (e.g. acceptable formats, copyright guidlines, further contact details), please visit the Screentest website: www.screentestfest.co.uk .

Finally, we are very excited to have recieved major sponsorship from Deloitte. AVID has agreed very generously to present every winner with their high performance video editing software. We are confident that their support will help us to justify, once again, the NUS's recognition of Screentest as the country's ' premier student film festival'.
