Operation Wallacea
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING NEXT SUMMER?
Nothing Sorted? Fancy a Change of Scenery? Seeking Adventure?
On Monday 10 December at 5pm in Room 1L1 at UWE, Jon Shrives from the field research organisation Operation Wallacea will be giving a presentation about the opportunities available for students next summer in Honduras, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa, Peru and Cuba. Also, for the first time in 2008 projects will be available in Mozambique.
Opportunities include:
- Learning to dive on an uninhabited tropical island with world class coral reefs
- Jungle trekking in pristine un-surveyed rainforests, seeking out species new to science
- Working on sustainable community development projects with the Bajo sea gypsies (Indonesia)
- Monitoring Turtle nesting and behavioural patterns (Cuba)
- Surveying birds and reptiles at a World Heritage Site (Egypt)
There are over 50 projects available for general volunteers and over 120 individual research projects. Many of these projects are suitable for final year dissertations with over 60% of our dissertation students getting Firsts for their field projects. So come along to the talk and hear more about what this exciting project has to offer.
