Jobshop thoughts

A lot of jobs asked for experience or qualifications – can there be more jobs where no experience required

In the current climate this is a difficult one as employers can be very particular. However Job Shop will endeavour to ‘attack’ areas such as large warehouses in Avonmouth to try and get more unskilled work.

Advertise a wider range of jobs

We do send marketing letters to every possible industry and our current selection is quite wide bearing in mind the current economic climate

There are too many volunteering jobs

To get a better balance we will only advertise a maximum of 2 volunteering roles each week.

Try and avoid issuing adverts where job vacancy is already taken

We rely on employers telling us when a job is filled if before the period is completed they have booked with us. We can be more pro active and give each employer a call after a couple of weeks to ascertain the postion and see if advert should be taken down.

Organise jobs by type in the email

Employers are always keen to see their job advert at the top of the email as it gets a better response.Organising by type would make this impossible whereas under present system they all get a chance of being near the top of the email.

Other Campuses should have Job Shop Officer so employers can target their advert to certain groups of students

Financially not viable. All registered students from all Campuses get the email with all jobs on it so everyone sees every email. We do from time to time, with certain adverts, direct them to a particular Faculty

Most of the jobs are Bristol based – howabout Swindon?

It is not viable to run a Job Shop just for Swindon so regret not able to help.

Allow students to request job adverts in particular categories

Some years ago we did this and it was unsuccessful as all that happened was that when a student was unsuccssful with chosen categories they asked for all the other jobs. Proved to work better sending everything in order of receipt of job advert

Jobs are in Bristol not Gloucester/Hartpury

Student needs to sign up for Hartpury Job Shop rather than be on Bristol list

Too many nursing jobs

There has recently been a surge in healthcare vacancies for some reason but this is only a phase.
