18. The Board of Trustees
There shall be a Board of Trustees the membership and functions of which shall be as follows:
18.1 Membership
- The members who shall be entitled to vote at meetings shall be:
- The Deputy Chairperson of the Student Representative Council;
- The members who shall be entitled to vote at meetings, whose membership has the purpose of facilitating communication between the Union and the University, shall be:
- A member of the academic staff of the University nominated annually by the Academic Board of the University and ratified by the Student Representative Council;
- A lay member of the Board of Governors of the University nominated annually by the Board of Governors of the University and ratified by the Student Representative Council.
- The members who shall be entitled to attend meetings but NOT to exercise a vote shall be:
- The General Manager of the Union;
- The deputy to the General Manager of the Union;
- Up to two additional members as may be appointed to serve in a non-executive capacity.
18.2 Functions
- To serve as the mechanism by which to provide for the effective management
- Of the Union’s facilities activities and services and to ensure appropriate allocation and usage of the Union’s resources;
- To act on behalf of the Union in all financial matters do all such other things as are necessary for the prudent conduct of the Union’s financial affairs in accordance with Law 8;
- To maintain and annually review in consultation with the Student Representative Council, the Sports Council, and the Activities Council, the Union’s strategic plan;
- To serve as the employing body of the Union in accordance with Law 10;
- To receive reports from the Sports Council and Activities Council;
- To receive reports from the General Manager;
- To arrange for the payment of appropriate allowances to students serving in a representative capacity in accordance with Law 7;
- To appoint a Returning Officer in accordance with Law 4;
- To appoint, at their discretion up to two additional members, who shall not be current students, staff, or governors of the University, nor current staff of the Union, to serve in a non-executive capacity;
- To maintain a sub-committee of the student members of the Trustees in order to facilitate communication between those members;
- To facilitate the resolution of such disputes as may arise between the Student Representative Council, the Sports Council and the Activities Council.
18.3 Quorum
A quorum of 50% +1 of the members shall be attained before any business may be transacted
