Opened in 1983 Jitsu is one of the oldest clubs at UWE.
Jiu Jitsu is a system of Self Defence, originally this martial art was developed and practised by the Samurai in Feudal Japan. With its wide syllabus employing locks, strikes and throws Jitsu is not a competitive sport, its practised as an effective system for modern self defence.
Jitsu is one of the few physical activities where women and men can take part on an equal footing. It’s a ‘team sport’ because you can only improve by working together with other club members, but its an individual activity because your progress and development is an individual to you.
All martial arts promise to teach self defence and improve your fitness, co-ordination and self confidence. So why is Jitsu different ? Firstly if it’s not enjoyable you won’t keep doing it, we make training fun, and tailor it to your ability so you won’t feel left behind and with a grading each term you will be showing your friends your new belt at Christmas.
Please see our website for more details.
Our Governing body is the Jitsu Foundation, with over 100 clubs and 3,000 active training members in the UK.
