We are affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), one of the largest student organisations in the world, which represents the interests of around five million students in further and higher education throughout the United Kingdom.
NUS provides research, representation, training and expert advice for individual students and Students' Unions. NUS runs a number of campaigns which you can become involved with at UWESU. These include the following:
Education: fighting against top-up fees and for a better education system.
Anti-racism/anti-fascism:"ˆcampaigning against racist and fascist organisations such as the British National Party.
Environment: NUS works with the People & Planet network and other student environmental groups, campaigns for Universities to develop environmental policies, to boycott unethical corporations, and to raise awareness of environmental issues among students.
Internationalism: NUS runs a number of campaigns raising awareness of world poverty, fighting for human rights and showing solidarity with students throughout the world.
Liberation campaigns: NUS campaigns to ensure that minority students are represented and supported throughout their University experience. The four main liberation campaigns are: "Black Minority Ethnic, Students with Disabilities, LGBT and Women's campaign".
Welfare: this campaign aims to support students and raise awareness of non-academic issues such as drug-assisted rape, housing, healthcare and sexual health.
