Raising money for charity is the whole reason we run our events and students give up their time.
Each year we choose a range of local, national and international charities to support based on the experiences of any of the committee members and the contact that we have with prospective charities. This gives each year’s committee the best possible incentive to make a fool of themselves in the name of charity
We aim to support a minimum of two charities throughout the year. Money from our events such as bar crawls and of course RAG Week are then split evenly among these. But throughout the year we also raise money for individual events and causes too. Last year we raised £760 for Comic Relief and over £300 for the National Aids trust through collections around World Aids Day in December.

The charities that we are supporting throughout the 2008 - 2009 academic year are:
The Brainwave Charity, based in Bridgwater, Somerset, was established in 1982. It helps children with disabilities to reach their full potential by giving parents the opportunity, equipment and skills to practice a daily programme of therapy exercises in the home. As students, you’ll know all about learning and revision. The brain is amazing as it adapts to appropriate daily stimulation and input – especially effective for brain injured children. Your support will help transform the lives of hundreds of children.
Bliss, the special care baby charity, provides vital support and care to premature and sick babies across the UK. Founded nearly 30 years ago, Bliss offers guidance and essential information at a critical time in families' lives. We also fund ground-breaking research and campaign for babies to receive the best possible level of care regardless of when and where they are born.
The Leukaemia Centre Project at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, has been set up to develop and deliver new treatments to benefit leukaemia patients. This centre of excellence will transform the environment for patients receiving treatment for leukaemia, develop world class clinical research, provide an information resource and set up support groups for patients and their families.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds research into a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust's objectives are:
