New!

Got an idea for a society that we don't currently have? Then why not set-up your own?

In the current climate of Education, many people need and want to get more out of University than just a degree. There's a saying that goes "Don't just get a degree, get an education!" Getting a degree at University doesn't necessarily mean as much as it used to! To be attractive to the 'real' world you may need extra transferable life skills.

Joining a Society can:

  • Increase your EMPLOYABILITY
  • Improve your SKILLS
  • Enhance your SOCIAL LIFE
  • Introduce you to new FRIENDS
  • Be FUN
  • Allow you to get INVOLVED
  • MAKE YOU DO SOMETHING

But if nothing interests you from the list of current UWE Clubs & Societies or you fancy something new, start up your own!

The Start-up Checklist

The steps below give you a brief outline of what you need to do to start your own society. For a more complete run through, download the booklet at the bottom of this page.

  1. Check that your activitiy doesn't duplicate a current society (check the list here ) as we can't fund two similar activities.
  2. Fill in the paper work below including a society profile, constitution, 15 member list and a committee detail contact form.
  3. Attend the next Activities Council (see the list of councils here ) where you will be asked to give a brief explaination of your society's aims. The council will then vote.
  4. If successful (and most are!) you will finally have to attend a training session where all the ins and out of society life are explained.

Society Profile

This gives us information about your new society so that we can tell any interested students exactly what you're up to.

Pre-memberlist

To make sure that you're starting up a society that is of interest to students at UWE we require the names of 15 current students who would consider joining the society if it were set up.

Each Society is required to have a president, treasurer and secretary. These must be full university members. You are more than welcome to create positions that are specific to your society, too. if you have equipment we also advise that you have an Equipment and Safety officer.

Society Constitution

Each society is expected to read and sign a copy of the constitution. Each member of the committee needs to sign this and then return it to the Sports and Activities Centre.
