The Guide

The areas are quiet themselves, with plenty of greenery and a few small parks, including Cotham Park and Redland Green at either end of Redland Road. While Redland and Cotham are relatively peaceful, they are situated between Gloucester Road, Clifton and the City Centre so they offer the convenience of all of the most lively student areas.

More densely populated with Bristol University students than UWE students, Cotham and Redland are expensive areas to live and not well served by public transport to any of the UWE campuses.

Over in Redland, Chandos Road is the hub of activity, with trendy restaurants and cafes including the cosy Carmen Miranda's, Old Possums Wine Bar, and the more upmarket Moreish alongside a bakery and a number of other restaurants. Aside from Chandos Road, there is little else to do in Redland, although on Coldharbour Road you will find the Orpheus, an independent cinema which offers all of the box office hits at a reasonable price.

Cotham is similarly tranquil, although Cotham Hill is buzzing during the day as people visit the Havana Cafe, Blue Juice, and the street's many charity shops. It is home to the Cotham Porter Stores, a traditional pub selling some potent cider. If you fancy splashing out on a meal, Juniper is one of the finest restaurants the city has to offer.

On St Michael's Hill, the Highbury Vaults is one of the best known pubs in Bristol with a beer garden, outdoor heaters, a selection of fine ales and a large student following.
