Your Students’ Union.

UWESU exists to represent all the students of UWE. To be a successful Students’ Union it needs the participation and involvement of it’s members, the students.

Ways to be Involved:

The Students of UWESU elect 4 full time Student Officers and 8 volunteer representatives to run the Union and represent the views of the members to the University. The full time officers either take a year out of studying for their degree or spend a year following their graduation running the Union. Each Officer/representative is given has help, guidance, training and support from members of staff within the Union. The successful candidates serve a term of office for 1 year.

Sports President

Eligibility: must be a registered student in March 2008

Example Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Union Trustee
  • Chair of the Sports Council and Sports Executive
  • Helps organise Varsity programme, Sports Awards Dinner and works closely with the sports department of the University.

Location: Sports and Activities Centre 5F Frenchay Campus

Start date: 23rd June 2008

Activities President

Eligibility: must be a registered student in March 2008

Example Role and Responsibilities:

  • Union Trustee
  • Chair of the Activities Council
  • Freshers Fair and Events management team
  • Organise student issue campaigns.

Location: Sports and Activities Centre 5F Frenchay Campus

Full Time Paid

Start date: 23rd June 2008

SRC President

Eligibility: must be a registered student in March 2008

Example Role & Responsibilities:

  • Union Trustee
  • Chair of Student Rep Council
  • UWE Governor
  • Represents the views of the students at various University committees
  • Ensures UWESU Students are kept informed of national issues affecting them.

Location: 4F Block Frenchay

SRC Vice President

Eligibility: must be a registered student 07/08

Example Role and Responsibilities:

  • Union Trustee
  • Vice Chair of the Student Rep Council,
  • Organises the Union AGM
  • Represents the views of the students at various University Committees.
  • Represents students on academic interest and Welfare

Location: 4F Block Frenchay

Part Time Voluntary Positions

Sports Vice President

Eligibility: must be a student 07/08

  • Supports the Sports President
  • Part of the organising team for sports events (i.e. Varsity)
  • Part of the organising team for sports awards Dinner
  • Works along side the SU Activities and Sport Department

Activities Vice President

Eligibility: must be a student 08/09

  • Supports the Activities President
  • Supports the Societies at UWE
  • Works along side the SU Activities and Sports Department
  • Part of the organising team for ReFreshers and Fresher’s
  • Supports the organising team for Events at UWESU

Start Date: September 08

Campus Chairs x 5

St Matthias, Frenchay, Glenside , Bower Ashton and Hartpury

Eligibility: Must be a student 08/09

  • Chair of the Site Committee
  • Helps organises social events for the campus
  • Represent the views of the students from the site at the Activities Council

Location: Student Union Site Office

Part Time Voluntary

Start date: September 08

UWESU Chair of Meeting

Eligibility: must be a student 08/09

Role and Responsibilities

  • To act as Chair at Union General Meeting
  • To ensure the smooth running of the Meetings

(Full Training will be given)

Start Date: Academic Year 08/09

How can I be elected?

Nominations Open for the positions open on February 4th 2008. Nomination forms are available from the Site Students’ Union Offices, from the UWESU web pages or via email nerys.neath@uwe.ac.uk .

For an informal chat and or just to find out further information please call 0117 3282585 or pop in to your student union office or speak to an existing officer.

Nominations Close on Thursday 21st February 2008 at midday.

Candidates Briefing Tuesday 26th February 2D07 Frenchay at 5.30pm. All candidates must attend the briefing session which gives guidance and tips of running a successful campaign. The voting process, election rules and regulations are all also explained.

Voting: March 3rd – March 7th 20078

UWESU use online voting. All registered UWE students have a vote.

Results: Friday 7th March in the Escape Bar Frenchay Campus
