Sustainability Week

This Week is Sustainability Week at UWE 21 - 25 April 2008

UWE has just agreed its 5 year Sustainability Strategy (download here ) and is hosting a week of over 50 sustainability related events and activities for students and staff to celebrate and get involved

be a part of it

Here is just a taster of what will be going on....

Watch 5 of the best films out there about tackling global sustainable development, all free of charge at the UWE SceneIT cinema, with Fairtrade cola and organic popcorn thrown in

Talk to energy saving experts from Bristol's Centre for Sustainable Energy, calculate your carbon footprint with the help of People and Planet and identify how you can save on energy costs at home

Summer is nearly here, so cycle to UWE on Thursday 24th, get a free breakfast (helmet required as proof!), have your bike checked over by Jakes Bikes, perhaps buy a reconditioned second hand bike or find out more about UWE's CycleScheme for tax free cycle purchase

Take part in the energy saving challenge, aiming to reduce UWE's night time energy consumption (on average each night UWE consumes what 3 average houses consume in a whole year!)

Get involved in up to 11 volunteering activities and help our local environment and communities

Enjoy a freshly made meal, made with sustainable ingredients, every day in OneZone

Work out your own personal travel plan with our own experts from the Centre for Transport and Society, to help you travel to UWE more sustainably

Plus much more...(full programme available here )

And of course, find out more about what UWE has done, and is committed to doing, to improve its sustainability performance and maintain our position as one of the top performing UK universities for environmental performance.

This year Sustainability Week is mainly, but not totally, based at Frenchay Campus. Sustainability Week will hopefully become an annual event, we promise to ensure all campuses are fully engaged from next year onwards.
