Rugby teams storm to BUSA finals

Both Men's Rugby 1st team and Women's Rugby 1st team made it through to the BUSA Trophy Final and BUSA Shield Final respectively yesterday.

Men's Rugby 2nd team completed a hat trick of triumphs for UWE Rugby teams by reaching the BUSA Vase Semi-Finals.

UWE Men's 1sts managed to hold on with a depleted squad beating Swansea 1sts 10 - 6 and UWE Men's 2nds defeated Sussex 1sts in a nail biting 13 - 12 win in Sussex with a make shift squad due to injuries & the Easter holidays.

The Women were at home to the much fancied Worcester 1st XV putting together a convincing 34 - 14 victory in what many 'in the know' have classed as 'the Final'.

All 3 teams will be in action on Wednesday 23rd April 2008 - yes, the same day as Sports Awards Dinner:

Fixtures:

BUSA Trophy Final: Men's Rugby 1st v Oxford 1st (Venue: Richmond Athletic Grounds; KO: tbc)

BUSA Shield Final: Women's Rugby 1st v MMU Cheshire 1st (Venue: Richmond Athletic Grounds; KO: tbc)

BUSA Vase Semi-Final: Men's Rugby 2nd v Essex 1st (Venue: Clifton RFC; KO: 14.00hrs)

Further Success

If that's not enough of UWE's sporting prowess…

Mountain Bike:

UWE gained 7th place in the BUSA Mountain Bike Championships last weekend.

Equestrian:

UWE gained 2nd place in the BUSA Team Regionals last week, with one of our riders - 1st year Kristy Cutler qualifying for the BUSA Individual Finals at the end of the month.

Trampolining:

UWE sent our biggest squad to date to the regional BUSA Championships last week and narrowly missed out on a final place, with Michael Wood 0.1 off a final placing.

And just in case you hadn't heard…

UWE have made history with 3 teams playing in the Premier League next season thanks to:

Men's Hockey 1st team and Netball 1st team both defeating Brighton teams to gain a much coveted place in the Premier League; and Men's Rugby 1st team retainning their place in the Southern Premier League B.
