BUCS - Sports Results - Week 8

Men’s Football firsts claimed a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth to take them to the top of BUCS Western Tier 1A and within touching distance of promotion to the Premier League.

Dominating the first half, UWE took the lead after 35 minutes when a long throw into the box from Dan Holland was flicked on from the near post by Sam Croft to Chris Davis who volleyed into a virtually empty net.

The second half saw Bournemouth get back into the game, but strong defending by the UWE back four and hard work from man-of-the-match midfielder Matt Brag guaranteed victory and UWE’s place at the top of the table.

UWE men’s Rugby firsts also emerged victorious with an impressive away win at Imperial College. Orlando Stott, playing his first game back from injury, put in a strong performance and picking up a try in the process.

Their 22-7 victory takes UWE back into the top half of the table only six points off the lead in a league that looks as if it will go down to the wire.

Elsewhere, Netball firsts claimed only their second victory of the season with a 59-26 demolition of Gloucestershire. The game was effectively won in the first quarter with UWE scoring 19 points conceding only two in reply.

The game saw UWE’s most composed display this season with players all across the court putting in their best performances of the season. The result goes a long way towards the team securing their place in the BUCS Premier South for 2009/10.
