East African Playgrounds

UWESU and EAP present an exciting volunteering opportunity!

“I had the time of my life in Uganda, it really opened my eyes to different cultures and people of the world. I absolutely love the Country. Thank you for everything it was just amazing. I really felt in my element out there.”

Nicola Church, UWE Volunteer 2012

Come to Uganda for one month to build a playground and help with our games and art programs within one school. The great thing about this volunteering project is that you live within the community and you work alongside your team of volunteers, the charity staff and of course the children and community that you will be impacting. All three programs (playground, games and arts) run alongside each other and last for one month, so you will see a school go from an empty canvas to a vibrant school that has brand new high quality, safe, fun playground equipment and an enthusiastic art teacher who now has all the skills and knowledge to inspire creativity within the children.

We are a small charity and therefore are able to ensure that your money is spent correctly. As a charity we ask each volunteer to fundraise £700- this money will go towards the build of your playground and the cost of the sports and arts program, so you get to see exactly where your money is spent. The only other money we ask from you is £300 which will cover your food, accommodation, basic transport and support in the UK. Instead of adding the cost of your flights and spending money etc into the amount you give us, we ask to you buy this separately meaning you know that the money you give us will be spend on the important costs of building a playground and the games and arts program. We do, however, help you to organize flights and insurance.

You will generally spend your mornings supporting our Ugandan builders to build the playground and in the afternoon you will be running games or arts sessions with the children. Then at the weekend you will have a chance to explore the best of Uganda, taking part in such activities as white water rafting, safaris, abseiling down waterfalls and chilling on beautiful beaches! A jam-packed month of excitement!
